How secure is my Personal Health Record?

When you subscribe to Your Health Highway, you will be issued with a unique log-in that includes your User Identification and Secure Password.

At all times you will be in the “Driver’s Seat”. You will be the sole person to grant access to others. You will even be required to complete an authority for the Your Health Highway’s Health Information Officer and Medical Supervisor to take action and collect and update your health record.

Because your privacy and security of your information is paramount, only the Your Health Highway Health Information Officer and Medical Supervisor will be able to update or change your record.

Your Health Care Providers will be able to view your health history, should you authorise their access. Your health record is unable to be modified except by the Health Information Officer using information provided by, or on behalf of you. This means you stay in complete control and have the assurance your privacy is secure.

How does Your Health Highway obtain the medical information to create my Personal Health Record?

After you have subscribed and received your login and password details, you will be asked to load your personal health details and complete forms for data collection. Along with this you will be requested to complete an authority to enable Your Health Highway to obtain information on your behalf from your Health Care Providers.

After Your Health Highway has your information, the Health Information Officer will complete your health record and it will be checked and certified by the Medical Supervisor (a Doctor). The record will then be available to you to confirm and verify.

Your Health Information Officer may also liaise with your primary Doctor and any other Doctor you have consulted, as well as other health care professionals you have seen. When you flag that you are allowing that health care professional access to your record, Your Health Highway will assist you, save you time and enable a smooth implementation by educating your Doctor and Health Care Professionals about the system and the benefits of it to make it easy for you.

Your Health Care Provider can provide Your Health Highway with information either to you or directly to Your Health Highway on your behalf. Information can be provided to Your Health Highway via email, fax, post or in person.

The Doctor or other Health Care Professionals can be authorised by the client to have their own log-in details to access the client’s record for a period of time between one hour and the end of the client’s subscription period as determined by the client.

You will always stay in control of who has access to the record and you will be able to provide access to other people (such as carer’s, parent’s etc) as well if you choose.

Can anyone else access my personal health record? If so, is there a limit on how many people can get access?

Your record is completely under your control and it will only be viewed and accessed by another person with your authorisation.

This means you can give access to your partner, your family, your Doctor and other Health Care Professionals or any other person you choose. It is completely at your discretion who you allow to see your own health history.

You will have complete control over which of your Health Care Providers you give access to. You will also be able to choose whether to share information between health care providers or not, too.

In the event of an emergency where you are unconscious or incapacitated and emergency access is required to provide emergency treatment to you then Your Health Highway’s Medical Supervisor can grant access to your record.

The benefit of Your Health Highway is that you will have a Secure, Personally Controlled, Medically-Managed, Web-Accessible Electronic Health Record accessible by whoever YOU choose.

Can I access my record anywhere in the world?

Your Health Highway is accessible locally, nationally and internationally through Secure Internet Access under your control.

This means that anywhere you have access to the internet your record will be available.

Your Health Highway can even be made available at more than one place at the same time - such as when a doctor is in one location providing health consultation over the telephone to your Health Care Provider who is in another location (even overseas) - both parties will be able to view your records at the same time if you have granted them access.

And even if access to the internet isn’t available, you and your Health Care Provider can access your record by calling Your Health Highway direct.

In the event you are travelling to a destination where you know that internet access and even phone contact may be limited - you will be able to print details from your record prior to leaving home and take with you, so you can be prepared in the event of a health issue or emergency.

I understand the Record is web based? What if I am somewhere where there is no internet access and I need my record for medical services?

Yes, your Health Record can be accessed via the internet. If you are travelling to a destination where you know that internet access and even phone contact may be limited - you will be able to print details from your record prior to leaving home and take with you, so you can be prepared in the event of a health issue or emergency.

And in the event of an emergency where you are unconscious or incapacitated and emergency access is required to provide emergency treatment to you than Your Health Highway’s Medical Supervisor can grant access.

Are there Family Health Records available?

Your electronic health record will contain basic information and family history, details of health issues and risks, treatment plans and management, whether you have allergies or adverse reactions, if you’ve ceased medications, procedures and investigations and other general correspondence.

You and your family will be able to grant each other access to your own health records.

Clients sixteen years and over will have control of their own record. Children under sixteen years of age will have their records controlled by their legal parent or guardian.

Can I set up a record for another person(s)?

Each person’s record is controlled by their self or by their legal guardian.

Who can add to or edit my Health Record?

Only you and your Doctor or health care practitioners can provide the information so the Health Information Officer can edit and update your record.

Now, if you’re starting to get concerned about the effort this will take, don’t! You won’t need to do much at all. And you won’t need special knowledge or skills to manage your profile and information either. Your Health Highway makes it easy by gathering, uploading and maintaining your records for you, in a medically usable fashion.
